Dr. David Katz received his doctorate and master's degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from Peabody Conservatory of Music where he studied with John Shirley-Quirk.
As a professional singer, Dr. Katz has performed in a number of venues nationally and in Europe as well. Chief among Dr. Katz's accomplishments, he has performed with the Baltimore Opera, the Bach Aria Festival in Stony Brook, NY and has made appearances at both the Walton's Art Center in Arkansas and with Cedar Rapids Opera Theater in Iowa.
Locally, Dr. Katz has served as music director for the Sarasota Players. He is currently a member of Gloria Musicae, Sarasota Florida's premier and only professional choral group.
Dr. Katz has served as music director, pianist/organist and vocalist at various times for both the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota, Florida as well as the Unitarian Universalist Church of Venice, Florida. He has also served as music director/cantorial singer for Temple Shalom in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Dr. Katz looks forward to continuing to grow the fine music program at Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater. He hopes to take the adult choir to new levels of musical excellence, insuring that music is always spiritually moving and elevates the message of the word to greater heights. As a music specialist at Braden River Elementary School in Bradenton, Florida, Dr. Katz takes a special interest in developing the talents of our young people. It is his hope to both begin a children's choir at Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater and to provide varying musical opportunities for the congregation's children throughout the year. Finally, Dr. Katz's hope is for the entire community at Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater to be a community of music makers that celebrate the spirit and elevate the seven basic tenets of Unitarian Universalism.
